Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.
Romans 6:3-4
What is Baptism?
We believe baptism is more than an outward confession of an inward faith although we do believe that is part of it. Baptism as Romans 6:3-4 (listed above) says is one participating in Jesus’ death, burial and resurrection, that those who are baptized would be raised with Him into new life.
Baptism isn’t just a symbolic act but a great spiritual encounter with the living God as we come into eternity with Him, which starts now, not when we pass on.
Should I get Baptized?
(Acts 2) On Pentecost, where the 11 disciples of Jesus and other disciples stayed waiting for the arrival of the Holy Spirit. Suddenly a great sound from heaven and a mighty rushing wind came in and the Holy Spirit dwelt with the disciples. Other men of Israel who heard the sound were astonished of what they had just witnessed. Peter shares the Gospel with them and the connection to the fulfillment of prophecy, so they asked Peter, “what then should we do?”. Peter replies, “repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit” (Acts 2:38). So those who received his word were baptized, and there were added that day about three thousand souls (Acts 2:41).
The response to receiving the Gospel was to repent and be baptized. So, if you’ve heard the good news and have made the decision to give your life as a disciple of Jesus Christ, what then stops you from being baptized? (refer to Acts 8:26-40).
What happens after Baptism?
Welcome to the new life you have joined in Christ! Now it’s time to get started in your discipleship path. Jesus doesn’t call people to subscribe to Him, He calls people to follow Him and that comes with a cost. It’s important to know that when you decide to follow Jesus everything changes. When Jesus called Peter and Andrew follow Him when they were fishing, the Bible says, “Immediately they dropped their nets and followed Him.” (Matthew 4:19)
Sanctification is a life long journey of becoming Christ-like through the renewing of the mind and how one lives their life (refer to Romans 12:2).
